The Wenatchee Figure Skating Club, WFSC, is committed to creating a safe and positive environment for its participant’s physical, emotional, and social development and to ensure that it promotes an environment free from abuse and misconduct.
As part of this commitment WFSC requires SkateSafe certification to be mandatory for all coaches, officials, board members, employees, volunteers, skaters who turn 18 before December 31st and anyone* else who will have regular contact with, or authority over, minor athletes are required to submit to a background screen before any such contact with minor athletes.
*At a minimum each player shall have one parent SkateSafe certified and background screened.
WFSC SkateSafe Policies are designed to address the following types of abuse and misconduct:
Follow these simple steps below to complete your SkateSafe requirement:
STEP 1: Log into your US Figure Skating Members account https://www.usfsaonline.org/Account
You will need your parent/adult US Figure Skating # and password to log in.
- If you are not a member of USFS, you can create a FREE volunteer account by:
-On the login page, scroll down to where it says "Create a Volunteer or Foreign Account"
-Select Volunteer, and fill out the form.
-Make sure to save the USFS number at the end.
- Once you are logged in, click the icon box that says USFS SafeSkate. Scroll down to see the current year compliance.
STEP 2: The background check is processed through National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI). It costs $30 and is required every 2 years. You will need your SSN and home address(es) for the past 7 years.
STEP 3: Complete SkateSafe Training. You can select the Begin button and it should take you to the training. The Begin button link may not work (I get a token error). If it doesn't, go to https://safesporttrained.org/#/login and log in through that. The first year the training takes ~90min. It does not need to be completed in one sitting. For the 2nd and 3rd years you will only need a 30min refresher. The 4th year will once again require the full 90min of training.
NOTE: If you are SafeSport trained in a different sport (ie. hockey, soccer) you can email SafeSport and they will copy any duplicate training from one sport to the other. To do this, log into USFS and go to the SafeSport training. From the SafeSport dashboard, select "Help Portal", then select "Members of USOPC...", Fill out the form. NGB org = Figure Skating, Issue = Certificates. Provide your USFS member # AND the member number of the sport you've already completed training with. Ask them to transfer training to USFS.
At a minimum each skater shall have one parent Safe Sport certified and background screened. The Safe Sport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for twelve (12) months .
Thank you in advance for completing this requirement before the upcoming season.
